This two-part workshop will explore harmful racist and discriminatory behaviour in the classroom and on campus. Concepts and tools to recognize discriminatory behaviour and patterns are discussed and put to self-reflection, focusing on three broad dimensions:
- Racist and discriminatory communication and interactions
- Discriminatory and harmful learning environments
- Biased knowledge systems, policies and rules
Participants are encouraged to engage in activities in and between both workshops to facilitate experiences and learning opportunities. Spotlights from a Global South perspective will challenge dominant European-centric ways to perceive, interpret and shape the world we live (and educate) in.
Learning Environment:
This workshop will be facilitated as an online course with a lot of discussions. Reflection, the sharing of experiences and the mutual development of possible ways to identify and counter racism is encouraged. There will also be presentations on key topics by the three facilitators that represent their diverse backgrounds and approaches to anti-racism.
In-between activities between both workshop parts are a mandatory and important aspect in order to step beyond theorizing and good intentions.
